Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade 2019On Saturday 12/14/19 the Eastport Yacht Club held their annual Lights Parade with 40 power & sail boats sailing around Annapolis Harbor and up Spa Creek. The boats were organized into 2 groups: Angel Fleet and Star Fleet, and the boats were creatively decorated with lights depicting a rock & roll Christmas, Santa Claus and his sleigh, a pirate’s treasure island, an abominable snowman, sharks, crabs, reindeer, octopus, trees, snowflakes, Charlie Brown, toy soldiers and a search & rescue boat. All Shearwater residents and guests were invited to vote on their favorite entry and send their votes via email to Cheri Hall. Cheri gathered the email votes and sent the results that night to Margaret & Bill Levatino, members of the Shearwater community and of the Eastport Yacht Club. The winner was #25 – The Griswald Wagon! It was a power boat lit up like a station wagon with a Christmas tree on top, and according to Cheri’s tally it garnered more than double the votes of the next closest boat. Our Dockmaster David Densmore ordered the traditional “Up The Creek” paddle award, and the Levatinos presented it to Scott Robinson, the skipper of the winning boat, at the Eastport Yacht Club awards brunch on Sunday morning 12/15. If you’d like more information on the Lights Parade, including a video with a commentary on the boats from the harbor, here’s a link to the Eastport Yacht Club website: www.eastportyc.org/lights-parade Thanks to everyone for all their efforts in making this Lights Parade a success!
Halloween 2019Shearwater’s second Halloween celebration on 10/31 drew an impressive number of enthusiastic spidermen, fairies, witches, batmen, ghosts and other creatures from our neighborhood (no T-Rex this year). Several residents also joined in with and without costumes to share in the celebration – including a very believable Tina Turner. Thanks to Mike and Liz LaFortune for setting up the table and chairs outside our gate, and all the neighbors who contributed lights, pumpkins, cobwebs, a jack-o-lantern, lighted bracelets and lots of candy for our visitors!
2019 Annual Shearwater Pooch PlungeThe 2019 installment of the Annual Shearwater Pooch Plunge was held on September 8th, marking the end of the pool season. Our canine residents, young and old participated, including Hope, who thoroughly enjoyed her last "public appearance".
New Courts and Pickle-ball - A Good time Event on a Summer DayPickleball has arrived at Shearwater. To christen the newly resurfaced courts, Joy Ambrogio organized a Pickleball clinic to introduce the community to the fast-growing sport. Residents from Shearwater and Severn House were treated to a clinic led by City of Annapolis Ambassador of Pickleball and USA Pickleball Association Ambassador, Sara Aiken. After some basic lessons, it was game on!
Shearwater Takes on Severn House in a Croquet ChallengeThe Shearwater Winning Wickets, led by Sharon Hobson, hosted a spirited team from Severn House in the first annual Creek Croquet Challenge. The defenders of Spa Creek honor were well prepared, having practiced for 15 minutes before the match. The Back Creek challengers arrived en mass by boat, holding glasses of champagne and ready to rumble. Shearwater was holding its own as the match devolved into a party on the pool deck. There have already been clamoring for a re-match and to make this an annual event.
